About the role
Engage in systems engineering for innovative maritime systems with advanced software and sensing capabilities.
Salary: $115000 - 282000 per year Requirements: Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Over 4 years of relevant experience in Systems Engineering connected to US Navy or DOD platforms. Experience in developing and integrating uncrewed vehicles, autonomy software, and maritime systems. Proven track record in leading technical engineering teams through studies, requirements development, system design, prototyping, integration, and testing. Background in collaborations with the US Navy or other government sponsors in a DOD research, development, and acquisition setting. Exceptional organizational, planning, social, and communication skills, both written and verbal. Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time. Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by the start date, with the potential to secure a Secret level clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship. Responsibilities: Engage in systems engineering for the development of innovative systems with advanced software and sensing abilities, including the creation of design reference missions, requirements, performance measures, architecture design, performance analysis, and test design and coordination. Determine effective applications of systems engineering best practices for autonomy, AI, and uncrewed vehicles, from prototypes to production through the Navy and other sponsors, utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering practices optimized for prototyping projects and their transition to acquisition. Lead and guide diverse technical teams at APL conducting design trade studies, requirements analysis, mission modeling, and software/hardware prototyping for maritime uncrewed systems. Oversee design, integration, and testing processes for autonomous and remotely operated maritime vehicles and their control software. Act as a subject matter expert in maritime robotics technologies, advising on best practices and emerging trends. Collaborate with the US Navy, other sponsors, and their partners in government and industry. Plan, coordinate, and conduct technical reviews, including developing technical products and presentations. Design, coordinate, and execute testing of autonomous systems through software-in-the-loop modeling and simulations and in-water testing.
