Sr. Staff Software Engineer

Salary: $105000 - 137000 per year Requirements: We require a bachelors degree in a STEM field plus 14+ years of software engineering experience, or a masters degree plus 12+ years, or a PhD plus 9+ years of software engineering experience. We are looking for a subject matter expert in one or more of these areas: front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, or TypeScript; back-end technologies such as Python, Java, or Node.js; API design such as REST, GraphQL, or gRPC; databases such as SQL, NoSQL, or MongoDB; networking fundamentals such as HTTP or WebSockets; cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and containerization. We need a subject matter expert in one or more core technical areas: geospatial engineering, human factors engineering, interoperability standards, cross-domain governance, cybersecurity governance, or open systems architectures. We require an active U.S. government Secret clearance that is current and in scope, along with eligibility for TS/SCI. We require the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR). We require the ability to travel approximately 25% of the time. Preferred: we value deep expertise across multiple technology areas, especially the front-end, back-end, API, database, networking, and cloud/containerization domains listed above. Preferred: we value strong capability across most of the core technical competency areas listed above. Responsibilities: We will rely on you to define the strategic direction and technical priorities for the software discipline in alignment with long-term sector goals. We will have you partner with engineering and integration discipline leaders to identify program needs and close gaps in tools, processes, digital solutions, and technical training. You will lead the development, rollout, and long-term sustainment of sector-wide engineering tools, standardized workflows, digital solutions, and training programs. You will help build and maintain a strong Software Community of Practice, coordinating sub-communities and encouraging collaboration across programs and specialties. You will serve as a trusted technical advisor, using root cause analysis and corrective action planning to address performance shortfalls and verify sustained improvement. You will capture and share lessons learned and proven practices across programs to continuously elevate technical performance. You will not be responsible for day-to-day coding or system integration; instead, you will shape the environment that enables product teams to succeed. You will help accelerate the delivery of full-stack software-based subsystems through a governed tool, process, training, and metrics ecosystem.
