About the role
Design and develop software for missile defense and electronic warfare systems.
Salary: $99000 - 243000 per year Requirements: A bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, physics, applied mathematics, or a closely related technical discipline At least 5 years of professional experience Strong proficiency in Java or C++, Python, Git/GitLab, and Linux-based software development Experience with containerization tools such as Docker or Podman, and/or relational database systems such as PostgreSQL or MySQL Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities Willingness to occasionally support test events and travel to field locations Ability to obtain a Secret clearance by the start date and later qualify for TS/SCI access; U.S. citizenship is required Preferred: a masters degree or PhD in a relevant technical field Preferred: experience with DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, security scanning, and image hardening Preferred: prior work in missile defense, electronic warfare, or another national security environment Preferred: familiarity with Navy surface combatant systems, including radars, communications, electronic warfare, and combat systems Preferred: an active Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance Responsibilities: Work on an interdisciplinary team to design, develop, test, and deploy software supporting missile defense and/or electronic warfare missions Contribute to the development, testing, and analysis of new concepts and algorithms for sensor and weapon command and control Improve simulations and real-time systems by refactoring code and adding capabilities such as algorithms, interfaces, data sources, and visualizations Analyze software inputs and outputs to confirm correct operation and support planning and testing for experimental and operational use Collaborate with government and industry partners on software architecture, interface requirements, performance metrics, and verification and validation testing Support evaluation activities at local, contractor, and government facilities, and help transition documentation and capabilities to government or industry stakeholders Technologies: CI/CD DevSecOps Docker Git GitLab Support Java Linux MySQL Podman PostgreSQL Python Security LESS More: We are the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), and we bring world-class expertise to some of the nations most critical defense, security, space, and science challenges.
