Software Engineer

Salary: $160000 - 267000 per year Requirements: We require a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline. We expect 10+ years of programming experience in a relevant language, along with hands-on work in modern front-end frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular and several backend technologies, with Python preferred and Java, Node.js, or Go also valuable. We look for a strong record of designing and delivering production systems that use LLMs or AI services at scale. We need experience with vector databases such as Milvus, Pinecone, Weaviate, or pgvector, plus advanced embedding model tuning in production environments. We require expertise with multiple LLM vendors and advanced AI orchestration tools, including LangChain, LlamaIndex, or custom frameworks. We seek extensive experience leading technical teams, coordinating cross-functional initiatives, and mentoring engineers. We require expert-level experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, as well as advanced container orchestration, including EKS. We require the ability to work from our office in Niskayuna, NY or Cambridge, MA. For Cambridge-based hires, we require a three-month hybrid onboarding residency at our Advanced Research Center in Niskayuna, NY. Preferred experience includes 13+ years of full software development lifecycle work, including architecture, technical leadership, and large-scale system optimization. Preferred qualifications also include deep knowledge of enterprise RAG architectures, semantic search tuning, and large-scale conversation memory management. We value experience with multimodal AI integration, model fine-tuning, and deployment of custom AI models. We prefer candidates with experience in AI observability, cost optimization, and performance monitoring at enterprise scale. We value cross-organizational influence, roadmap shaping, and technical strategy development. Responsibilities: We define the AI architecture and technical direction across multiple products. We lead cross-functional initiatives with product and data science partners. We design RAG and agent-based workflows and improve LLM integrations. We build secure, multi-tenant, highly available systems with strong observability. We establish standards for AI cost control, monitoring, and security. We mentor teams and help raise the bar for Agile practices, testing, security, and documentation. We collaborate across research and product to align technical execution with business goals.
