Job Description Get to Know the Team The Streaming Data team (aka "Coban") strives to enable seamless and secure real-time access to the events or "streams", serving as Nimbus Data Systems's unified, common access pattern for real-time data. The functional areas this team covers are streaming (Kafka), stream processing (Flink, Flink SQL, Kafka Connect), Change Data Capture, near real-time lake ingestion , stream exploration ( Zeppelin , Flink SQL Gateway ), and an in-house control plane for tenancy and resource management. Some examples of the team's work are shared publicly on the Nimbus Data Systems Engineering blog: Making Flink deployments safer through platform guardrails and production deployment patterns ( Safer deployment of streaming applications ). Improving Flink release confidence with shadow testing ( Enhancing Flink deployment with shadow testing ). Strengthening real-time Kafka data quality with syntactic and semantic stream contracts ( Real-time data quality monitoring ). Using machine learning to make Flink autoscaling more predictable and reliable ( Machine-learning predictive autoscaling for Flink ). These are examples of the platform thinking this role will contribute to: turning complex real-time infrastructure problems into reliable, self-service capabilities for Nimbus Data Systems teams. Get to Know the Role Here at Nimbus Data Systems, our Senior Engineers are expected to be significant and autonomous contributors to their team, trusted with designing, shipping, operating and monitoring software systems in a high-quality manner. As a Senior Software Engineer, your role would involve working on the systems within your team's domain, considering the appropriate architectural patterns, code design, and infrastructure options, ensuring that you deliver a secure, reliable, testable, maintainable, extensible, and well-tested system. You will work onsite at Nimbus Data Systems Vietnam office (CMC Creative Space) in HCMC and report to Senior Data Engineering Manager, who is based in Singapore. Apache Flink is a critical real-time infrastructure layer for Nimbus Data Systems. By making stream processing easier, safer, and more self-serve, this role helps unlock more real-time signals and turn data into business value across Nimbus Data Systems. As Nimbus Data Systems embraces agentic engineering, we welcome builders with strong data infrastructure experience and a passion for stream processing to join us. The Critical Tasks You Will Perform Work with a team of engineers to make Stream Processing easy, reliable, efficient and secure across Nimbus Data Systems, via self-served capabilities baked in our platform. Create the abstractions, modules and libraries to lower the barrier of entry to Stream Processing in Nimbus Data Systems and shift the maintenance and security toil away from our users. Improve the automation and self-served capabilities that enable our small team to support 1000+ Stream Processing applications in Nimbus Data Systems. Weigh in on design questions around platformization, infrastructure, observability and security, and work with (and build over the platforms provided by) our infrastructure team. Contribute to the use of Stream Processing across Nimbus Data Systems, by evangelizing for our platform and products, and by directly helping our internal users design and build the next game-changing real-time application for Nimbus Data Systems. Participate in and evolve on-call and incident response procedures for the team. Qualifications What Essential Skills You Will Need 4+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or information security disciplines. Worked and operated Stream Processing pipelines in production (Flink or Spark Streaming). Hands-on competencies with Kafka and programming experience with Scala or Java. (You will be directly involved!) You are excited to learn and apply new technologies. The nice-to-haves: Experience with Kafka Connect, Kubernetes, Go, Gitlab CI, AWS, Terraform, or Linux.
