Senior COBOL Developer

Salary: $72,000 - 112,000 per year Requirements: At least 6 years of experience with Visual COBOL and/or Micro Focus COBOL, plus working knowledge of Visual COBOL V9. At least 10 years developing and maintaining complex, mission-critical applications in Windows-based client-server environments. At least 5 years leading technical software development teams in planning and deploying software systems. At least 10 years coding and testing complex COBOL business systems using Oracle SQL in a Windows-based client-server environment. At least 5 years providing Level 3 production support. At least 5 years serving as the primary business-unit contact for developing and reviewing business and technical specifications and ensuring delivery of specified functionality. At least 10 years applying computer system analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and implementation practices to develop or modify systems. Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and plan, define, lead, direct, instruct, and review project work and personnel. Preferred: Oracle 19 or later SQL experience; familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and C#; experience in a governmental environment; Visual COBOL technical certification; a bachelors degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline; and experience mentoring less experienced technical colleagues. Government agency experience is especially helpful. Responsibilities: Analyze our core business system and assigned tickets to identify development or modification needs. Lead analysis and recommend solutions for assigned tickets and projects. Work with business units to develop business specifications, translate them into technical specifications, and obtain business approval. Code, test, and deploy solutions, and engage affected users to confirm that documented requirements are met. Provide production support for our core system. Provide daily and weekly status updates to the development manager and business analysts. Lead technical software development activities, including planning and deployment. Mentor and guide less experienced technical colleagues. Communicate with users, vendors, staff, and management in writing and verbally.
