Salary: $146,300 - 306,400 per year Requirements: We need a bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent proven experience. We need 10+ years of experience building and running large-scale, highly available cloud-based distributed systems. We need specialist-level proficiency in a modern programming language such as Java, C, C++, C#, Go, or Python, with additional language knowledge preferred. We need a strong grasp of operating system fundamentals. We need a deep understanding of data models and distributed persistence technologies. We need strong knowledge of current security principles, techniques, and protocols. We need solid troubleshooting and performance tuning capabilities. We need proficiency in network, distributed, asynchronous, and concurrent programming. We need knowledge of professional software engineering practices across the full development lifecycle. We need experience building and operating scalable infrastructure software or distributed systems. We need a proven record of delivering stretch goals in a highly innovative, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities: We mentor teams in the architecture and design of highly scalable, interdependent distributed systems. We identify performance and scalability bottlenecks and recommend improvements for large-scale data processing and high-throughput environments. We work with stakeholders to define scalability requirements that align with customer expectations. We design elastic, high-impact systems that can scale both up and down as needed. We drive innovation in data plane platforms. We assess whether systems are meeting nonfunctional scalability targets and anticipate future business demand. We design and oversee fault-tolerant systems that can withstand in-service updates through redundancy, replication, and automatic failover. We lead the design of systems that handle disruptions such as network partitions while balancing consistency, availability, and partition tolerance. We optimize resilience mechanisms such as load shedding, throttling, and rate limiting. We design durable systems that meet service level objectives and set standards for availability and durability across dependent services. We define KPIs and telemetry to uncover risks, gaps, and cyclical dependencies in production systems. We build and tailor advanced dashboards, monitoring, and alerting to improve system health and reliability. We apply correctness verification methods to interdependent systems and formally verify complex features where needed. We develop advanced data replication and synchronization strategies to protect integrity and availability. We architect security controls for multi-tenant environments and lead efforts to strengthen data and application protection. We guide remediation plans for identified security vulnerabilities. We ensure cloud infrastructure aligns with industry standards and regulations and support documentation efforts. We create enterprise-grade automation strategies, including Infrastructure as Code, and oversee implementation. We align change management plans for patching, updates, and rollbacks, and design systems that support safe automation of these processes. We advise on and lead resolution of complex production issues. We set operational readiness and SOP standards. We direct incident response and root cause analyses.
