Lead AI Engineer (GenAI, LLM)

Salary: $194000 - 265000 per year Requirements: We require a bachelors degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, plus at least 4 years of experience developing AI or machine learning algorithms or technologies, or a masters degree in one of these fields plus at least 2 years of relevant experience. We require at least 4 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java. We prefer 6 years of experience delivering scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud environments such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or comparable private cloud platforms. We prefer experience designing, building, deploying, and supporting AI services. We prefer hands-on experience developing AI and ML technologies such as LLM inference, similarity search and vector databases, guardrails, and memory systems. We prefer experience applying advanced methods to optimize training and inference software for better hardware efficiency, lower latency, higher throughput, and reduced cost. We prefer a strong interest in current AI research and the ability to thoughtfully apply emerging techniques in production. We value a strong engineering and mathematical foundation, with deep technical fluency across hardware, software, and AI. We value candidates who adapt quickly, bring structure to ambiguous problems, and communicate findings clearly. We value curiosity, independent thinking, and the confidence to introduce new ideas even when they are not yet proven. Responsibilities: We partner with engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products that improve how our associates work and how our customers engage with Lumen Dynamics. We design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability. We work across a broad set of open-source and SaaS AI technologies, including AWS UltraClusters, Hugging Face, vector databases, NeMo Guardrails, PyTorch, and similar tools. We invent and apply leading-edge LLM optimization techniques to enhance scalability, cost efficiency, latency, and throughput in large-scale production AI systems. We help shape the technical vision and long-term roadmap for foundational AI systems at Lumen Dynamics.
