IBM z/OS Systems Administrator / Custom Software Engineer

About the role We're seeking an experienced IBM z/OS Systems Administrator / Custom Software Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. This is a pivotal role within our Networks & Systems Administration function, responsible for managing and optimising our IBM mainframe z/OS environments whilst developing custom software solutions to meet evolving business requirements. Based in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, Metro Manila, this position offers the opportunity to work with enterprise-level systems infrastructure and contribute to the strategic technology initiatives of our organisation. Key responsibilities Manage and maintain IBM z/OS mainframe systems, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security across the infrastructure Monitor system performance, capacity planning, and resource allocation to support business continuity and operational excellence Develop, implement, and maintain custom software solutions tailored to organisational requirements using appropriate programming languages and tools compatible with z/OS environments Conduct system administration tasks including user account management, security configurations, backup procedures, and disaster recovery planning Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, providing timely technical support to development teams and end users Collaborate with software development teams to integrate custom applications with z/OS systems and ensure seamless deployment Implement and maintain system patches, updates, and security protocols to protect critical business data and infrastructure Document system configurations, procedures, and technical specifications to ensure knowledge transfer and operational consistency Participate in capacity planning and infrastructure upgrades to support business growth and technological advancements Provide technical consultation on z/OS best practices, system design, and architecture recommendations What we're looking for Proven experience as an IBM z/OS Systems Administrator or similar mainframe systems role, with a minimum of 5 years in a professional capacity Strong knowledge of z/OS operating system architecture, components, and administration utilities (JCL, ISPF, TSO/VSAM) Proficiency in at least one programming language relevant to z/OS environments, such as COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, or Java Experience with systems performance monitoring and tuning tools specific to z/OS platforms Solid understanding of security protocols, access control mechanisms, and compliance requirements for mainframe systems Familiarity with z/OS networking concepts and integration with distributed systems environments Experience in custom software development and deployment on mainframe platforms Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional technical teams Preferred: Experience with IBM software solutions (e.g., DB2, IMS, CICS) and knowledge of modern DevOps practices applied to mainframe environments Preferred: Relevant IBM certifications or formal training in z/OS systems administration and software development
