Aperture Cloud is a virtual obesity medicine clinic delivering multi-disciplinary evidence-based obesity treatment through telemedicine. Obesity impacts more than 40% of the US adult population, and although historically only about 1% of patients received medical treatment for their disease, the field of Obesity Medicine is entering a period of rapid growth. Aperture Cloud provides high-quality expert care and leverages technology to enhance the patient experience. All Aperture Cloud patients work closely with their care team, which includes board certified physicians, advanced practice professionals and Registered Dietitians. Through our proprietary mobile app patients engage in regular video visits, as well as text messaging, photo journaling, digital data transmission, and customized educational materials. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of clinical care, and to treating every individual with empathy and respect. Founded in 2019, Aperture Cloud is a venture-backed innovative startup with an experienced clinical and leadership team. Our mission is to empower patients and be leaders in Obesity Medicine driving impact at a national scale. We are deeply invested in our core value to put patients first, and also deeply committed to creating a culture where every employee is valued and we learn and improve together. About the Role: Aperture Cloud is building a clinical-grade care platform that powers longitudinal obesity and cardiometabolic treatment at national scale. The software we build spans two sides of the same mission: Patient experience — the app patients live in, where they onboard, meet their care team over video, and stay engaged with a treatment plan that unfolds over months and year Care team experience — the clinical charting, scheduling, care coordination, and operational tooling that let clinicians deliver safe, effective care at scale. You'll be responsible for shipping software that is reliable, scalable, secure, accessible, and maintainable, because our patients and our care teams depend on it every day. Just as important, you'll level up how the team builds. We're an AI-native engineering org, and we expect this leader to bring a high bar with them: fluency in agentic software delivery (operating as a manager of agents, with AI tooling like Claude Code as a core part of the workflow) and the engineering fundamentals that make small teams fast and safe: small-batch delivery, continuous delivery, feature flags, and tight feedback loops. You should already practice these things, and you should be eager to coach them into the team and raise the ceiling on what a small group can ship. This role will partner closely with product, design, clinical, and operational leaders to translate evolving patient and care needs into scalable software. This is a fully remote role open to candidates located anywhere in the United States. What you will do: Team Leadership & Execution Lead, coach, and grow a small (but growing) team of engineers delivering business-critical clinical, operational, and patient-facing systems Establish clear goals and execution plans aligned with product and company priorities Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement Provide direct feedback, mentorship, and career development for engineers at multiple levels Level up the team: raise the technical and delivery bar through pairing, code review, and hands-on coaching, and grow engineers' fluency with modern, AI-native delivery practices Hire thoughtfully to strengthen team capability and long-term scalability Technical Leadership Guide architectural decisions across backend services, workflows, integrations, internal tools, and patient-facing web and mobile experiences Partner closely with senior engineers to ensure systems are reliable, scalable, secure, and maintainable Maintain strong technical fluency across systems built with technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Node.js, React / Next.js, React Native, TypeScript, and AWS-based infrastructure Ensure healthy CI/CD pipelines and safe deployment practices that support incremental delivery in a regulated healthcare environment Champion small-batch, continuous delivery—small PRs, short-lived branches, feature flags, and tight feedback loops—so the team ships safely and frequently Drive an agentic, AI-native approach to building software: lead as a manager of agents, and coach engineers to make AI developer tools (e.g., Claude Code) a core part of how they design, build, test, and review—without compromising engineering rigor Use DORA metrics and other delivery signals to continuously raise the team's throughput and stability Identify technical risks early and lead mitigation strategies before they impact care delivery Building for Patients and Care Teams Oversee development of the experiences patients rely on daily (onboarding and activation, video visits, secure messaging, photo and data journaling, device and health-data integrations) and the systems that
