Data Center Engineer

Salary: $230,000 - 240,000 per year Requirements: Bachelors degree and 12+ years of experience Top Secret/SCI clearance Deep expertise in data center infrastructure, including compute, storage, and networking Strong knowledge of virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, and KVM Experience designing and executing large-scale data center migrations Knowledge of cloud platforms and hybrid or cloud-adjacent architectures Experience with storage architectures, including SAN, NAS, and object storage Advanced networking knowledge, including routing, switching, firewalls, and load balancing Familiarity with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies Understanding of security frameworks, compliance requirements, and risk mitigation Ability to develop architectural standards, frameworks, and documentation Experience with automation and orchestration tools such as PowerShell and Ansible Proficiency in dependency mapping, workload analysis, and capacity planning DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification, such as Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CySA+, or CND Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills Ability to lead technical teams and mentor others Experience with DoD networks such as NIPR, SIPR, and JWICS is preferred Experience in fast-paced, transformation-driven environments is preferred Responsibilities: Develop and lead end-to-end data center migration strategies, including on-premises transitions, consolidations, and hybrid or cloud-adjacent migrations Evaluate existing data center environments, dependencies, and risks to develop migration roadmaps and execution plans Design target-state data center architectures aligned with business goals, security standards, and compliance requirements Coordinate migration activities with infrastructure, network, storage, security, and application teams Establish standards, best practices, and architectural frameworks for data center operations and future scalability Guide technical decisions on virtualization, storage, networking, backup, and disaster recovery Oversee migration execution, including cutover planning, validation, and post-migration optimization Identify and mitigate performance, availability, data integrity, and security risks throughout migrations Create architecture diagrams, runbooks, migration plans, and operational handoff documentation Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering and operations teams Evaluate company services and competing equipment or solutions, and keep current with hardware and software developments Define measurable requirements from customer descriptions and system designs, and verify compliance through formal methods Translate high-level product strategies into network and system specifications, coordinating with other engineering disciplines on detailed requirements Coordinate the development of network and system standards, practices, and procedures Design interfaces and integrate network and system components Assess performance against evaluation criteria and technical measures Liaise with customers, support business development, and help define requirements Coordinate equipment planning, design, and installation using engineering and programming knowledge and technical tools Contribute to conceptual system design and document design concepts Design and build network services, equipment, and devices Technologies: Ansible Cloud Hardware Hyper-V Support KVM Load Balancing Network PowerShell Security VMware Architect More: We are GovCIO, seeking a Data Center Engineer to support a modernization effort in Hampton, Virginia.
