The Content Platform team at Cobalt Streamworks powers the infrastructure behind every asset used across the Cobalt Streamworks ecosystem—enabling creators and developers to bring their visions to life at global scale. From 3D models and images to videos and audio, our platform manages the complete lifecycle of all assets essential for immersive experiences, supporting one of the largest services in the world at over 100+ million requests per second. Our mission is to deliver a seamless, reliable, and innovative content system that empowers creators, supports record-breaking games, and ensures the highest standards of performance and safety for our community. As the Technical Director for Content Platform, you will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for the technical and product vision of Cobalt Streamworks’s asset infrastructure. You will own the lifecycle of every asset—from creation and upload to storage, indexing, delivery, and rendering in the game client. Your leadership will be critical in scaling our systems, optimizing distributed infrastructure, and enabling new possibilities for creators and players alike. You Will: Define and drive the long-term strategy, architecture, and priorities for the Content Platform team, ensuring scalable, high-performance asset management Lead engineering teams in building and maintaining robust, large-scale distributed systems to support the creation, upload, storage, indexing, and delivery of all asset types used on Cobalt Streamworks Oversee the operation Cobalt Streamworks’s largest backend service, handling 100 million+ requests per second, and ensure reliability, scalability, and efficiency at global scale Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including product, infrastructure, and developer platform teams, to align engineering initiatives with the needs of creators and the broader Cobalt Streamworks ecosystem Guide ownership of roadmaps, projects, and outcomes, balancing innovation with operational excellence, security, and cost efficiency You Have: 12+ years of experience building high-impact, consumer-facing applications at scale. BS in Computer Science or related experience is preferred Deep expertise in backend engineering, distributed systems, and large-scale infrastructure, delivering high-performance, reliable platforms in high-traffic production environments Strong experience working with cross-functional teams You Are: An innovative technical leader passionate about building world-class infrastructure that powers the creativity of millions Product-minded, with a keen understanding of developer needs, asset workflows, and the impact of backend systems on user experience Adaptable and curious, eager to tackle unique technical challenges and drive the future of content platforms at scale For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page . Annual Salary Range $399,420 — $457,970 USD Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
