About the role

Build and deploy quantum computing systems using silicon photonics and advanced semiconductor manufacturing techniques.

PsiQuantum’s mission is to build the first useful quantum computers—machines capable of delivering the breakthroughs the field has long promised. Since our founding in 2016, our singular focus has been to build and deploy million-qubit, fault-tolerant quantum systems. Quantum computers harness the laws of quantum mechanics to solve problems that even the most advanced supercomputers or AI systems will never reach. Their impact will span energy, pharmaceuticals, finance, agriculture, transportation, materials, and other foundational industries. Our architecture and approach is based on silicon photonics. By leveraging the advanced semiconductor manufacturing industry—including partners like GlobalFoundries—we use the same high-volume processes that already produce billions of chips for telecom and consumer electronics. Photonics offers natural advantages for scale: photons don’t feel heat, are immune to electromagnetic interference, and integrate with existing cryogenic cooling and standard fiber-optic infrastructure. In 2024, PsiQuantum announced government-funded projects to support the build-out of our first utility-scale quantum computers in Brisbane, Australia, and Chicago, Illinois. These initiatives reflect a growing recognition that quantum computing will be strategically and economically defining—and that now is the time to scale. PsiQuantum also develops the algorithms and software needed to make these systems commercially valuable. Our application, software, and industry teams work directly with leading Fortune 500 companies—including Lockheed Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Mitsubishi Chemical—to prepare quantum solutions for real-world impact. Quantum computing is not an extension of classical computing. It represents a fundamental shift—and a path to mastering challenges that cannot be solved any other way. The potential is enormous, and we have a clear path to make it real. Come join us. Job Summary The System Integration & Deployment Engineer is responsible for the integration, installation, commissioning, and deployment of optical, electronic, photonic and mechanical subsystems used in quantum computing platforms. This role supports all aspects of system integration and commissioning, including component integration, room-temperature and cryogenic rack population, functional verification, system bring-up, and final commissioning documentation. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with engineering, validation, operations, and site personnel to ensure the successful deployment and operational readiness of quantum computing systems. Key Responsibilities System Integration & Commissioning Bring-up, test, commission, and deliver quantum computing systems composed of laser sources, silicon photonics assemblies, fiber-optic networks, optical components, electronic subsystems, and control infrastructure. Integrate and verify system connectivity across optical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal. Execute commissioning procedures and perform system-level verification to ensure installation quality and operational readiness. Generate final commissioning reports documenting installation activities, test results, system status, and deployment outcomes. Testing, Troubleshooting & Validation Perform installation verification tests and functional validation procedures to confirm system performance and connectivity. Troubleshoot issues encountered during system bring-up and commissioning activities. Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and validation teams to rapidly resolve technical issues and deployment blockers. Ensure commissioning activities align with both classical and quantum validation requirements and acceptance criteria. Installation Planning & Documentation Contribute to developing installation plans, commissioning schedules, and deployment procedures. Contribute to installation documentation, calibration procedures, work instructions, and operational guidelines. Required Qualifications B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D in Optical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Photonics, Physics, or a related technical field Experience in testing complex optical or electronic systems. Good understanding of fiber-optic technologies. Ability to read and interpret: Electrical schematics Optical network diagrams Mechanical drawings Technical specifications and engineering documentation Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical issues and apply structured troubleshooting methodologies in fast-paced deployment environments. Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions under pressure and with incomplete information. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of relevant industry experience Experience with software-hardware integration and programming. Experience with optical fiber network installation, troubleshooting, and testing. Experience with mechanical engineering, cryogenics, and design. Experience performing fiber splicing procedures and operating fiber-optic test and installation equipment. Familiarity with cryogenic, laser, photonics, or quantum computing technologies.
