System Engineer - Unix/Linux

Role: System Engineer - Unix/Linux Work Location: Bedok Job Description We're looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative Engineer, Unix/Linux System to join our growing infrastructure team in Singapore. In this role, you'll take ownership of managing, maintaining, and supporting our Unix/Linux systems while ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security. The ideal candidate will be analytical, organized, and resilient—ready to tackle complex technical challenges while contributing to our organization's infrastructure goals. - Administer and manage Unix/Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) including operational tasks, backup procedures, and SLA compliance - Ensure high availability and performance of Unix/Linux platforms supporting critical business functions - Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues impacting system operations in a timely and efficient manner - Perform system monitoring, performance analysis, and optimization using industry-standard tools - Execute patching, updates, and vulnerability management to maintain system security and stability - Develop and maintain shell scripts (Bash, Korn) to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency - Design and implement infrastructure solutions following best practices and organizational standards - Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting processes for knowledge sharing - Collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and project management to support infrastructure initiatives - Participate in testing and implementation of new technologies and services - Provide technical support and mentoring to junior team members as appropriate - Suggest process improvements based on emerging technologies, best practices, and changing business requirements - Support disaster recovery planning and exercises to ensure business continuity Qualifications Required Qualifications: - 3-5 years of hands-on experience in Unix/Linux system administration - Strong knowledge of Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) - Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Korn shell) - Solid understanding of file systems, LVM, and RAID configurations - Experience with system monitoring and alerting tools (Nagios, Zabbix, or similar) - Working knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, SSH) - Experience with patching and vulnerability management processes - Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills - Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, or Chef) - Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes basics) - Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) - Knowledge of version control systems (Git) - Experience with performance tuning and system optimization - Proactive, detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous learning - Relevant Unix/Linux certifications (RHCSA, LPIC, or equivalent)
