At Beast Industries, we believe in the transformative power of digital media and its potential to entertain, educate, and effect positive change. Our commitment to innovation, creativity, and philanthropy drives us to explore new frontiers, create unforgettable experiences, and build a legacy that inspires future generations. BEAST INDUSTRIES Staff Frontend Engineer, App Framework (E-Commerce) Primary: Bay Area (San Francisco / Peninsula) | Secondary: NYC The Opportunity We're doing an AI-first engineering rebuild for a company that already has an audience of 100M+ people. This is a zero-to-one build with no legacy constraints, and you get to define a modern frontend foundation from scratch. You're not here to maintain someone else's framework. You're here to build the one every product engineer at Beast ships on top of. The Product You'll own the frontend application framework behind our e-commerce properties, the foundation that turns a Feastables drop or a creator moment into a fast, reliable shopping experience for millions of people at once. That means: Own the architecture, rendering strategy, and build tooling that every product engineer relies on to ship commerce surfaces. Make the funnel fast. Core web vitals and page-load performance directly move conversion, and you own that number end to end. Decide where AI belongs in the frontend stack, from coding agents in the dev loop to AI-assisted experiences on the surface itself. What You'll Do Set the architectural direction for the e-commerce frontend: rendering, state, routing, and module/build tooling. Solve the ambiguous platform problems where the usual patterns don't apply, balancing performance, maintainability, and how fast teams can ship. Own frontend performance from measurement to budgets to optimization across the funnels that drive revenue. Define the standards, patterns, and guardrails product engineers actually adopt, then drive that adoption across teams. Drive the hard architectural calls in RFCs and design reviews, and build consensus among senior engineers without leaning on a title. Raise the frontend bar across the org through reusable patterns, real documentation, and mentorship. Be the escalation point for the gnarliest frontend reliability, performance, and architecture problems, including checkout. Who You Are AI-Native: You're already burning through tokens and running coding agents daily to multiply your output. Framework Builder: You've owned framework- or platform-level frontend architecture at scale, typically 15+ years in, and shipped design systems or shared platforms that many engineers built on. Performance Obsessed: You can find the real bottleneck on a high-traffic funnel when the cause isn't obvious, and you know the real tradeoffs of client, server, and edge rendering. Influencer Without Authority: You set direction and move senior engineers through reasoning and evidence, not mandate. Deep expertise in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and a major framework like React, including rendering models and large-scale app architecture. Bonus points for high-traffic e-commerce or marketplace frontends, monorepo tooling at scale (Vite, Turbopack, Bazel, Nx), edge rendering, and a public presence through talks, open source, or writing. Benefits Equity: Highly competitive equity package designed for a foundational hire. Hybrid Model: Expected ~3 days per week in-office (Bay Area or NYC). Benefits The Perks, Why Work On the Cobalt Streamworks Team We are redefining what entertainment and storytelling look like at global scale. Every piece of content we publish reaches millions and influences culture in real time. This is your opportunity to lead the team that decides how those moments come to life across every screen. Competitive Salary Generous Medical (Blue Cross Blue Shield), Dental, Vision and company-paid Life Insurance Company contributions to employee Health Savings Accounts (HSA) 401k Plan with Safe Harbor company-matching Flexible vacation policy and paid company holidays Company-provided technology package Relocation assistance where applicable, including travel and company-provided housing for the first 90 days
