Sr. Staff AI Engineer (Remote)

Salary: $286,200 - 392,000 per year Requirements: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and at least 10 years of experience developing AI or ML algorithms or technologies; or a relevant masters degree and at least 8 years of such experience. At least 10 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java. Experience architecting AI platforms and balancing cost, latency, throughput, and accuracy. At least 9 years of experience deploying scalable, responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent private cloud environments. Experience architecting, designing, developing, integrating, delivering, and supporting complex AI systems. Ability to lead and mentor multiple engineering teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including senior executives. Experience developing AI and ML technologies such as LLM inference, similarity search, vector databases, guardrails, or memory systems using Python, C++, C#, Java, CUDA, or Golang. Experience optimizing AI training and inference software to improve hardware utilization, latency, throughput, and cost. Experience building agentic AI systems and workflows. Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex AI concepts to peers. Experience or recognition in applied AI or machine learning infrastructure, demonstrated through patents, publications, or open-source leadership. Experience shaping long-term AI infrastructure strategies that balance cost, scale, ethics, and regulatory compliance. Experience advancing AI safety, alignment, and governance standards in collaboration with policy, risk, and legal teams. Ability to guide R&D investment strategy by identifying AI capabilities with significant business potential. Experience selecting appropriate model sizes, instance counts, and hardware based on requirements such as context length and token volumes. Passion for keeping current with AI research and applying suitable new techniques in production. Responsibilities: Collaborate with engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products for our associates and customers. Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI components, including foundation model training, LLM inference, agents and multi-agent workflows, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability. Use open-source and SaaS AI technologies, including AWS Ultraclusters, Hugging Face, vector databases, and PyTorch. Develop advanced foundation-model optimization techniques to improve the scalability, cost, latency, and throughput of large-scale production AI systems. Help define our technical vision and long-term roadmap for foundational AI systems. Guide AI architecture, bringing applied research advances into reliable, scalable production environments. Establish company-wide standards for AI performance, safety, and transparency across model development and deployment. Lead multi-year platform initiatives that bring data, compute, and model lifecycle management together in a cohesive enterprise AI architecture. Mentor senior technical leaders across research, data, and engineering and help develop future AI leaders.
