Senior Software Engineering Specialist

Salary: $100,000 - 145,000 per year Requirements: We require a Bachelors degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience, a graduate degree with at least 4 years of related experience, or 10 years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree. We require at least 4 years of experience developing embedded software in C/C++ using object-oriented design and implementation. We require hands-on experience with embedded Linux, including modern development APIs, network communications, and potential containerization approaches. We require proficiency with software development tools such as compilers, debuggers, and version control systems like Git. We require experience leading and mentoring engineering teams. We prefer familiarity with Agile development practices. We prefer scripting experience, especially with Python for test automation and validation. We prefer experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. Responsibilities: We lead the design, development, implementation, and testing of updated flight software in C++ within an embedded Linux environment. We build and maintain software that supports multiple vendors of optical communications terminals for space vehicle systems. We apply working knowledge of optical communications terminal operations, peer-to-peer contact scheduling, link setup, and pointing vectors tied to orbital motion. We maintain the embedded Linux code baseline, DevOps pipeline, configuration control, and associated technical documentation. We refactor and enhance integration and test procedures to support additional vendors and to align with the broader space vehicle software baseline. We execute formal qualification testing against the updated flight software requirements for the optical communications terminal adaptor. We update Python scripts used for simulation, integration testing, and formal qualification testing. We participate in daily standups, coordinate development and test schedules, and work with fellow engineers to resolve issues. We collaborate with external vendors and systems engineers to ensure smooth hardware and software integration. We create and maintain design specifications, user guides, test procedures, and other software documentation. We debug and troubleshoot issues promptly to protect product quality and reliability. We tune software performance and memory usage to satisfy product requirements. We take part in code reviews to uphold strong code quality and engineering best practices. We stay current on emerging tools, methods, and industry trends to continually improve our development processes.
