Job Description Impact you can create Overview of the role As a Senior Android Engineer at Cobalt Streamworks, you will architect and deliver high-quality, performant mobile experiences that scale to millions of users. You’ll collaborate with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and QA to define, build, and ship features in our flagship Android applications. You’ll also mentor mid-level engineers, champion best practices in code quality and testing, and drive continuous improvement of our mobile platform. Responsibilities Design, build, and ship features in Flutter (Dart) and native Android (Kotlin/Java) Familiarity with Android frameworks and libraries such as Jetpack, Compose, Coroutines, Flow, Room, WorkManager, and Android Architecture Components. Collaborate with UX/UI designers to translate wireframes and prototypes into production-ready Android experiences. Write and maintain unit tests, integration tests, and UI tests to ensure high code quality and reliability. Profile and optimize memory, network usage, app startup time, rendering performance, and battery consumption for a smooth and responsive user experience. Implement asynchronous data loading, caching, prefetching, and background processing to support performance at scale. Define and evolve mobile architecture using design patterns such as MVVM, MVP, Clean Architecture, Repository Pattern, Dependency Injection, and SOLID principles. Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Gradle, GitHub Actions, Fastlane, Firebase App Distribution, or similar mobile deployment platforms. Partner with backend teams to integrate RESTful and GraphQL APIs, ensuring robust error handling, offline support, and contract stability. Work with QA to triage issues, reproduce bugs, and validate fixes across Android device families, screen sizes, OS versions, and OEM variations. Take end-to-end ownership of features from requirements gathering to release and post-release monitoring. Define success metrics, track key performance indicators such as crash rates, adoption, engagement, ANRs, and performance metrics, and iterate based on data. Implement and support compliance of self and team to Cobalt Streamworks compliance and information security processes. Qualifications Requirements / Must Have 3 to 5 years of professional Android development experience. Strong proficiency in Kotlin and good understanding of Java interoperability. Strong mastery of Android SDK, Android Studio, Gradle, debugging tools, and performance profiling tools. Hands-on experience with Jetpack libraries such as ViewModel, LiveData/Flow, Room, Navigation, WorkManager, and DataStore. Experience in building modern Android UI using Jetpack Compose and/or XML-based layouts. Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, SOLID principles, and clean architecture. Experience with data persistence technologies such as Room, SQLite, SharedPreferences/DataStore, and caching strategies. Experience with networking libraries such as Retrofit, OkHttp, GraphQL clients, and handling API contracts effectively. Strong understanding of memory management, multithreading, concurrency, Coroutines, Flow, and asynchronous programming. Strong design skills and ability to build scalable, maintainable, and performant mobile applications. Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision making. Extensive experience in Agile methodologies. Good knowledge of SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle). Good understanding of data structures and algorithms. Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment. Desired Skills Familiarity with Flutter, Jetpack Compose, Material Design, and modern Android UI development practices. Experience with feature flagging, A/B testing frameworks, and remote config tools such as Firebase Remote Config. Knowledge of GraphQL integration on mobile. Background in CI/CD tooling specific to Android mobile development. Understanding of mobile security best practices such as encrypted storage, certificate pinning, secure API communication, and authentication flows. Experience with crash reporting, analytics, and monitoring platforms such as Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog, or similar tools. Experience in modular Android architecture and large-scale app codebase management. Exposure to Play Store release processes, app signing, build variants, and release management. Open-source contributions or participation in Android developer communities.
