Senior Software Developer
Loaded Reports · Queenstown, Otago · Posted 3d ago
About the role
Develop software solutions for hospitality management, focusing on quality and maintainability.
To our next great Loaded teammate, We’re a Queenstown based software company helping hospitality owners and managers all over the world build better businesses and give their teams a better place to work. We’re looking for a Senior Software Developer with 7+ years of software development experience to join our engineering team. You’ll be someone who loves solving real problems, takes ownership and enjoys the pace of a lean team getting a lot done. You’ll take an initial direction, ask good questions and use your initiative to turn it into a feature our customers love. You’ll also have hands-on experience using AI to develop software, and considered opinions about where it helps you move faster and where you need to get deep into the detail yourself. We want someone who enjoys pushing what’s possible, while taking responsibility for the security, quality and maintainability of everything they ship. The way we build software is changing quickly. That excites us. You should be comfortable trying new approaches, sharing what works and changing how you work tomorrow when you find a better way. About Loaded Loaded brings sales reporting, workforce management and inventory together in one platform, giving hospitality teams live visibility and practical tools to control their revenue, labour costs and margins. Our story started inside a 12-site hospitality group in New Zealand. We were running venues ourselves and struggling with disconnected systems, manual processes and information that arrived too late to act on. So we started building the software we wished we had. Today, Loaded helps hospitality businesses across New Zealand and Australia manage everything from rostering and timesheets to purchasing, recipes and stock. We’re still driven by the same thing: solving the everyday problems that make running a hospitality business harder than it needs to be. We’re growing with a lean, capable team. Your work will have a direct impact on our customers, and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to influence both the product and how we build it. How you’ll work You’ll have room to make decisions and the responsibility to see them through. That means understanding the customer’s problem, challenging the brief when needed and working with your squad to find the simplest solution that does the job well. As a senior developer, you’ll bring the judgement to help us move quickly and sustainably. You’ll know when a simple solution is enough, when a decision needs more thought and when a shortcut is likely to create problems later. AI will be part of your everyday toolkit. We’ll expect you to use it thoughtfully, challenge its output and understand the code you put into production. That means knowing where to give it room to work and where architecture, security, business logic or customer impact require close human attention. You don’t need to have every answer. You do need to stay curious, have a view, explain your reasoning and be open to changing your mind. Your responsibilities Own features and engineering problems from refinement through to release, making sensible technical decisions and following through on the result. Build and maintain robust, scalable and secure applications using React, MUI, C#, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework and SQL Server. Use AI tools to accelerate development, investigation, testing and review, while remaining accountable for the work you deliver. Contribute to architecture and shared patterns that help the team build faster and keep the codebase maintainable. Create and extend our APIs, integrate with third-party platforms and work confidently with database design, query performance and migrations. Review code with care, whether written by a person or generated with AI, and give clear, practical feedback. Build appropriate automated tests and verify that features work as intended for customers. Help other developers grow through mentoring, pairing and sharing what you learn. Work closely with your squad to clarify requirements, challenge unnecessary complexity and keep delivery moving. Communicate progress, blockers and risks early, and document decisions and behaviour that others need to understand. Required skills, experience and knowledge 7+ years of professional software development experience , with substantial experience delivering full stack applications. Strong skills in JavaScript, React and C#/ASP.NET Core. Experience with TypeScript, MUI and Entity Framework is a bonus. Practical experience developing software with AI tools , including reviewing, debugging and improving AI-generated code. Clear views, grounded in experience, on where AI adds value, where it falls short and how to use it responsibly with code and data. Sound engineering judgement across maintainability, security, performance and testing. Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party services. Experience with SQL Server or similar relational databases, including schema design, migrations and query optimisation. Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and taking work safely through to production. Strong experience with Git and GitHub workflows. Experience with testing frameworks such as Playwright and xUnit. The ability to work independently, help others work through difficult problems and raise the standard of the team’s output. Clear written and verbal communication. You can explain your thinking, ask for help early and disagree constructively. A bachelor’s degree in a STEM field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics. Perks of the job We don’t like to oversell the perks. We think a big part of enjoying your work comes from being surrounded by good people, solving worthwhile problems and seeing the results of your effort. That said, our Queenstown office has an exceptional view, the coffee is good and heaps of the team are out riding bikes and skis before and after work. We’ll also consider remote work for the right candidate. Interested? In your cover letter, feel free to be informal and tell us why you would actually like to join us. We’d also love a practical example of how you’re using AI in your development work. Where has it helped you move much faster? Where have you had to step in, rethink the approach or catch something it got wrong? Tell us what you’re thinking and what you’re all about. The less standard jargon, the better. Regards, Rich CEO On behalf of the Loaded team
