Senior SEO Strategist The Senior SEO Strategist at Ironwood Digital plays a vital role in maintaining and optimizing WordPress websites, focusing on technical implementation, SEO best practices, and detailed documentation to support our clients' digital success. This position requires a strong foundation in technical SEO, hands-on experience with WordPress, and a commitment to precision and continuous improvement. This is a full-time, fully-remote position, ideal for a detail-oriented professional eager to grow within a collaborative environment. Core Competencies Technical SEO Expertise Strong command of crawling, indexing, rendering, schema, internal linking at scale, log file analysis, and Core Web Vitals Daily proficiency with Ahrefs, Screaming Frog (or Sitebulb/Lumar), Google Search Console, and GA4 Comfortable reading HTML, CSS, and JavaScript well enough to assess SEO impact and write implementation specs Looker Studio reporting experience, with at least passing familiarity with BigQuery for GSC exports WordPress Optimization Clear understanding of the WordPress hierarchy and template structure/ Skilled in implementing SEO best practices within WordPress environments using plugins like Yoast and Rank Math. Maintains and updates WordPress core, themes, and plugins while considering SEO implications. Enhances website performance for search engine visibility. JSON-LD Implementation and optimization for schema implementation, including familiarity with popular schema-based WordPress plugins Execute on-page SEO optimizations, including metadata and image file name adjustments, alt tags, and header tag structures. Implement and troubleshoot schema markup and structured data. Manage URL structures, 301 redirects, canonical tags, and XML sitemaps. Monitor and resolve crawl errors to ensure proper indexing of new and updated content. Coding skills are not required but would likely be useful in this role. Detail-Oriented Documentation Tracks and documents SEO issues, improvements, and implementations with accuracy. Obsessive use of annotations in tools like GA4 and Debugbear and Microsoft Clarity. Creates comprehensive work logs and maintains up-to-date technical SEO documentation. Measurement and analyticsSEO Monitoring & Reporting Conduct regular SEO health checks using tools like Ahrefs. Monitor and report on technical SEO metrics and improvements. Maintain detailed logs of technical issues, implementations, and progress. GA4 event design, conversion tracking, and attribution. Looker Studio reporting. Server log analysis for crawl behavior (real technical SEO once sites get bigger). A baseline reporting cadence and KPI framework, including non-Google metrics. Client Organic Search Growth Keyword research, topic modeling, and pillar/cluster content strategy Competitive gap analysis using Ahrefs (content gaps, keyword gaps, link gaps) Editorial collaboration: writing briefs, working with content teams, shaping what gets published Forecasting traffic and pipeline impact, setting measurable growth targets Internal linking as a programmatic growth program, beyond cleanup Conversion path awareness, working with CRO optimization Information architecture for new content pillars AI/LLM Discovery Explicit experience monitoring brand visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Copilot Familiarity with GEO tooling: Ahrefs Brand Radar, Profound, Otterly, Peec AI, AthenaHQ, Scrunch Content structuring for citation: original research, primary data, named expert sources, extractable formats (definitions, comparisons, Q&A blocks) Entity-based SEO and knowledge graph work, Wikipedia/Wikidata presence llms.txt, schema markup framed for AI extraction, structured FAQ and HowTo at scale Comfort writing point-of-view content. LLMs cite opinionated, sourced takes more than generic recap pages Tracking share-of-voice in AI answers as a reportable metric, not just rankings Key Responsibilities Portfolio Ownership Own organic search and AI discovery performance for an assigned book of Ironwood Digital clients, typically 12 to 15 accounts across our plan tiers, including sitecare.com. Set quarterly KPIs per client, defend them in internal reviews, and report progress to clients directly. Decide which work gets prioritized inside each engagement based on impact, with escalation paths defined for scope and budget changes. Technical SEO Health Keep every client site in your portfolio above an agreed technical health bar. Run scheduled audits, maintain a prioritized issue backlog, and partner with Delivery Managers to get fixes shipped. Be the person who notices indexing drops, Core Web Vitals regressions, and crawl budget waste before the client does. Growth Strategy and Roadmaps Build and maintain a 12-month organic growth roadmap for each client, refreshed quarterly.
