Senior Project Manager - Aerospace

Job Description We are seeking a Senior Project Manager to join a growing engineering organisation within the aerospace sector. This is a high-impact role where you will support the Project Chief Engineer (PCE) in delivering complex development programmes — ensuring performance, cost, quality, and schedule objectives are achieved in line with structured engineering processes (including APQP). As a Senior Project Manager, you will take ownership of delivering engineering programmes end-to-end, acting as a key interface between internal teams and the customer. You will lead cross-functional Integrated Programme Teams (IPTs) across international sites (UK, France, US), ensuring alignment between technical delivery and commercial targets. Key Responsibilities: Lead the delivery of development programmes across the full lifecycle Ensure projects meet cost, schedule, and quality targets Support and deputise for the Project Chief Engineer (PCE) where required Act as a primary interface with customers and key stakeholders Drive collaboration across multi-site engineering teams (UK, France, US) Manage risks, issues, and programme performance reporting Ensure alignment with structured development processes and APQP standards Qualifications Required Skills: Proven experience as a Senior Project Manager within aerospace, defence, or complex engineering environments Strong understanding of engineering development lifecycles Experience delivering programmes involving electrical systems, avionics, or embedded systems Ability to operate in a customer-facing, stakeholder-heavy environment Experience leading cross-functional / international teams Familiarity with APQP, gated development processes, or similar frameworks Required Qualifications: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering , or equivalent military experience . Desirable Skills: Background supporting or working alongside Chief Engineers / Technical Authorities Experience within aerospace OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers Knowledge of safety-critical standards (e.g. DO-178, DO-254) Company Description ALTEN is a global engineering and technology consultancy operating across over 35 countries worldwide.
