About the role

Location: Shanghai, China (Global Engineering Hub) Organization Size: ~30 Engineers | 2–3 Engineering Managers Position Summary As the Senior Engineering Manager for the Mobile App team, you will be the strategic lead for our mobile engineering organization. You will move the team from a "task-driven" unit to a "mission-driven" powerhouse, overseeing the development and optimization of our native iOS and Android applications. You will be responsible for a team of approximately 30 engineers through a "manager of managers" structure, ensuring that our mobile platforms deliver elite-level customer experiences, performance, and stability for our global e-commerce audience. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Team Growth Team Evolution: Directly manage and mentor 2–3 Engineering Managers; cultivate a high-performing, autonomous culture focused on ownership, continuous learning, and digital fluency. Talent Strategy: Lead talent and succession planning, identifying internal high-potentials and utilizing strategic global sourcing to ensure team resilience. Culture Reshaping: Reset the organization’s culture from "executing tickets" to "owning outcomes," fostering a mission-driven mindset that eliminates cross-functional friction. Operational Excellence & Execution Delivery Governance: Oversee project execution from concept to deployment, ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery across high-stakes initiatives. Agile Execution: Implement sophisticated performance frameworks to measure real engineering health, flow efficiency, and developer experience. Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as a strategic partner to Product Managers, UX Designers, and other domain software managers to align the mobile roadmap with overarching business objectives. Technical Innovation & Architecture Native Excellence: Drive the technical vision for native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) platforms, ensuring a modular, scalable architecture that minimizes technical debt. AI-Native SDLC: Lead the integration of AI-augmented development workflows (e.g., Claude Code, Kiro, Snyk/Figma MCP) to serve as a force multiplier for testing, documentation, and code generation. System Integrity: Ensure robust monitoring, logging, and governance to maintain industry-leading standards for app stability, security, and performance. Required Qualifications Experience: 12+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5+ years in a people leadership role managing multiple teams or managers. Technical Mastery: Deep, hands-on expertise in Native Mobile Development (iOS/Swift and Android/Kotlin) is a must. You should have a proven track record of moving from a Principal Engineer to a Senior Leadership role. Domain Expertise: Prior experience in a fast-paced e-commerce or consumer-facing digital environment is highly preferred. Architectural Depth: Strong understanding of mobile app lifecycles, app store processes, RESTful APIs, and modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, observability). Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. What You’ll Bring Business Intelligence: The ability to translate complex technical decisions into business value (revenue, margin, and retention) for executive leadership. Innovation Mindset: A passion for staying ahead of tech trends—including Agentic AI and Multi-Agent Orchestration—and the vision to apply them to real-world business problems. Collaborative Style: An influential leadership style that builds trust across distributed global teams and fosters a culture of technical rigor. #LI-OJ1 Staffing Agency Submission Notice iHerb does not accept unsolicited 3rd party ("Agency") candidates.
