Senior Java Backend Developer Location: Remote — must work Pacific Time (PST/PDT) hours Experience: 8+ years Employer: ZAPCOM Role Overview ZAPCOM is seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer to support a client engagement. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience building scalable backend services, developing REST APIs, and delivering reliable applications in a distributed environment. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using Java and Spring Boot. Build RESTful APIs and microservices that support business and product requirements. Collaborate with frontend engineers, product teams, and QA to deliver features. Optimize application performance, database queries, and service reliability. Implement unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews. Troubleshoot production issues and identify root causes. Contribute to system design, technical documentation, and engineering improvements. Work closely with teams operating in Pacific Time. Required Skills and Qualifications 8+ years of software development experience, with strong expertise in Java backend development. Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and the Spring Framework. Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems. Experience with SQL databases, data modeling, and query optimization. Knowledge of concurrency, multithreading, data structures, and design patterns. Experience with automated testing tools such as JUnit and Mockito. Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS. Familiarity with Kafka or other messaging platforms. Experience with Redis or similar caching solutions. Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, monitoring, and logging tools. Experience supporting high-volume, customer-facing applications. Interview Process Technical interview with ZAPCOM. Client interview following successful internal evaluation.
