Senior Data Engineer

Salary: $109000 - 148000 per year Requirements: 8 to 12+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a closely related technical discipline Strong command of the full ETL lifecycle, including architecture, build, tuning, and ongoing support Advanced Python skills for large-scale data handling and pipeline creation Practical experience in AWS cloud environments such as EC2, Lambda, EKS, and S3 Proven experience leading technical efforts or mentoring engineering teams Solid understanding of scalable data architecture and modern engineering best practices Experience working in Agile development settings Exposure to workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow Familiarity with containerization platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a focus on improving data quality and operational efficiency Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship may be required Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and refinement of scalable ETL pipelines and enterprise data workflows Build and deploy robust Python-based data processing solutions in production environments Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and provide hands-on technical guidance Improve data quality, pipeline stability, scalability, and operational performance Partner with engineering leadership, product stakeholders, and cross-functional teams in an Agile environment Contribute to cloud-native data solutions in AWS and support infrastructure modernization efforts Take part in technical planning, solution design sessions, and long-term data strategy discussions Diagnose complex data engineering issues and recommend best practices and process enhancements Act as a senior technical contributor who leads by example while staying hands-on Help shape and scale modern cloud-based data solutions within a growing engineering team Technologies: Airflow AWS Lambda CI/CD Cloud DevOps Docker EC2 ETL Support Kubernetes Python Security Terraform Architect More: We are Ironwood Digital, a collaborative, mission-driven organization based in Chantilly, VA, where our engineering team is building scalable data solutions that support critical mission objectives.
