About the role

Build and deliver production Rust services and APIs for high-performance applications.

Salary: $93,000 - 133,000 per year Requirements: Strong production experience with Rust, including ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, traits, error handling, and effective use of the type system. Solid async Rust knowledge, using Tokio or an equivalent, with experience in tasks, channels, streams, cancellation, and concurrency correctness. Experience designing and operating backend services and APIs, such as HTTP, GraphQL, or gRPC. Production experience with relational databases and SQL, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, and writing raw SQL beyond ORM use. Understanding of authentication and authorization fundamentals, including OAuth2, JWT, RBAC, or relationship-based access control. Comfort with command-line and cloud-native workflows, Docker, CI/CD, and some cloud infrastructure, as well as code review and collaboration in a sizable codebase. Experience in one or more areas such as real-time networking (WebRTC, QUIC, NAT traversal, or iroh); media and streaming (GStreamer, professional video codecs, AVFoundation, VideoToolbox, or low-latency pipelines); or systems-level work involving daemons, background services, IPC, virtual filesystems, caching, or content addressing. Helpful additional experience includes Rust gRPC/Protobuf with Tonic or Prost; production GraphQL servers; sqlx and PostgreSQL performance tuning; Ory, Zanzibar-style authorization, or Auth0; AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform/Terragrunt, NATS, or Meilisearch; cross-language FFI or Rust bindings; Nix/devenv and task runners; observability tools; or professional film, video, or post-production workflows. Responsibilities: Build and deliver production Rust services from PostgreSQL schemas and migrations through GraphQL and gRPC APIs, serving tens of thousands of users while maintaining compatibility and using controlled rollouts for behavior changes. Develop features for our cloud GraphQL API, including async-graphql schemas and resolvers, sqlx queries and migrations, relationship-based authorization, search, and messaging. Create and evolve concurrent Tokio-based services, background workers, and streaming APIs that remain reliable under load and observable in production. Work across gRPC and Protobuf service boundaries, preserving published interfaces as backwards-compatible contracts. Improve shared foundational crates through focused, well-tested changes. Extend Stradas peer-to-peer architecture, including iroh/QUIC transport, WebRTC signaling, TURN, and NAT traversal to support direct machine-to-machine media transfers. Depending on team priorities and interests, specialize in the GStreamer media pipeline or the cloud and data plane, including APIs, storage, search, and authorization. Instrument systems with observability tooling and contribute to CI/CD on AWS EKS. Technologies: API AWS Backend CI/CD Cloud Docker GraphQL HTTP Support JWT Kubernetes NAT NATS PostgreSQL RBAC Rust SQL Terraform gRPC Datadog GitHub Grafana NFS OpenTelemetry Prometheus Swift Unix Windows More: We are hiring for a Rust engineering role at Strada, building services and systems for tens of thousands of users. Our work spans cloud APIs and data infrastructure as well as peer-to-peer media transfer, with opportunities to focus on either professional media pipelines or the cloud and data plane. The role emphasizes production reliability, observable systems, and careful compatibility across service interfaces. last updated 41 week of 2026
