Hands-on experience building geospatial data products, particularly from new or novel imaging instruments, and working with real-world sensor data. Demonstrated ability to apply scientific first principles to complex problems. Strong Python development and analysis skills, including use of standard geospatial formats and libraries such as COGs, Xarray, and GDAL. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across distributed, interdisciplinary teams. Ability to prioritize, adapt, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Preferred: experience processing multispectral or infrared satellite imagery; expertise in wildfire monitoring, meteorology, weather, environmental remote sensing, or related Earth observation fields; experience with satellite mission product development, commissioning, early operations, or operational customer-facing pipelines; experience applying ML/DL and advanced image processing to remote sensing data; familiarity with cloud-native geospatial workflows and large-scale processing, preferably on AWS; or experience writing technical design documents, product specifications, or algorithm theoretical basis documents. This role requires access to export-controlled information. Applicants must meet applicable U.S. export-control access requirements, such as qualifying as a U.S. person, being eligible to access the information without an export authorization, or being eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the required authorization. Responsibilities: Develop derived data products across our infrared imaging missions. Implement and improve scalable algorithms that process, transform, and analyze multispectral infrared imagery into geospatial products. Help shape derived product design and roadmaps with guidance from senior scientists and product owners on our IR Data team. Prepare technical and customer-facing design documents to align internal capabilities with external stakeholder needs. Support engagement with customer technical stakeholders, including technical interchange meetings, customer questions, and program meetings. Write production-ready code for customer-facing data pipelines and operational services. Help ensure the scientific quality, quantitative validation, and integrity of derived products across our infrared missions. Collaborate with software engineers, calibration scientists, and instrument engineers to design, build, and maintain operational data product services. Develop expertise in topics needed for the work, such as sensor geometry and characterization, georeferencing, wildfire and environmental monitoring, and cloud-native geospatial data engineering.
