QA Automation Engineer

About the Opportunity We’re working with a well-known New Zealand organisation with a strong brand and a genuinely purpose-led culture. Their digital products are used at scale, and they’re in the middle of an interesting period of change across their systems and ways of working. They’re looking for a QA Automation Engineer to strengthen automated testing across web and mobile. You’ll sit alongside a collaborative product/engineering team, helping improve confidence in releases by building and maintaining automation, tightening up regression coverage, and partnering closely with developers and product to catch issues early. This is a permanent, full-time role based in Auckland CBD, with a flexible hybrid setup (typically 2–3 days in the office). What You’ll Bring 3+ years’ experience in testing within a complex digital/product environment, with at least 2 years focused on automation Strong hands-on automation experience, including building and maintaining reliable, maintainable test suites Practical experience with Playwright (core), plus comfort working in JavaScript/TypeScript-style automation patterns Exposure to Appium for mobile automation (or the motivation to lean into it, if you’re stronger on web today) Experience with API testing tools such as Postman, and an understanding of how API checks fit into broader test strategy Confidence working with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into delivery workflows Strong test design skills: translating requirements/user stories into high-value automated coverage, prioritising based on risk A collaborative style, comfortable working closely with developers, product and design Bonus: familiarity with observability tools like Datadog and using logs/metrics to speed up troubleshooting and improve test effectiveness What’s on Offer Salary around $120k (depending on experience) Flexible hybrid working (typically 2–3 days in the office) A role with real scope to influence automation approach and quality practices during a period of change Work that’s meaningful and visible, improving reliability for products used by a wide customer base A team culture that values curiosity, initiative, and people who like making things better without overcomplicating them If you want, I can also tailor a tighter SEEK version (slightly punchier, fewer words) while keeping the same “not oversold” tone.
