About the role
Own product design end to end, including problem framing, flows, UI, and final polish for a growth desk for self-published authors.
About Cobalt Streamworks Cobalt Streamworks is the growth desk for self-published authors. We give KDP authors one toolkit to grow their books on Amazon: keyword rank tracking, sales analytics, listing optimization, A+ Content design, category research, and reader review distribution. We're a small, remote-first team headquartered in the Boston area, building for authors who treat their books like a business. The role You'll own design across both of Cobalt Streamworks 's surfaces: a typography-led, literary marketing site that refuses to look like every other SaaS template, and a data-dense product dashboard where authors track rankings, sales, and reviews. The brand is committed and specific (one house color, bold type, real product views over abstract illustration) and your job is to deepen it, not dilute it. You'll be the only designer, working directly with the founder and engineering, and your decisions will reach production within days. What you'll do Own product design end to end: problem framing, flows, UI, and final polish Maintain and evolve the design system across the marketing site and the signed-in product Design data-heavy dashboard views (rank charts, sales analytics, review tracking) that stay legible under real-world data Design marketing pages, landing pages, and campaign creative that hold a strong typographic line Work hand-in-hand with engineering: specs and prototypes that translate cleanly to Tailwind-based implementation Hold the accessibility bar: WCAG 2.1 AA contrast, reduced-motion paths, and interfaces that work for everyone What we're looking for 4+ years of product design experience with a portfolio that shows shipped work, not just concepts Exceptional typographic and visual craft. Our brand lives or dies on type, hierarchy, and restraint Experience designing dashboards or other data-dense interfaces, including the empty, loading, and overflowing states Systems thinking: you build reusable patterns and know when to break them Comfortable as a team of one: you scope your own work, seek feedback early, and ship without a design org around you Nice to have Front-end literacy (HTML, CSS, Tailwind) or the ability to fine-tune your own designs in code Brand or editorial design background Motion design used sparingly and well Compensation & benefits $115,000–$145,000 base salary, depending on experience Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) plan Flexible PTO plus company holidays $1,000 home-office setup budget An annual book stipend, naturally How we work We're fully remote across the US, with a home base in the Boston area. The team is small, communication is mostly written and async, and there's no layer between you and the founder. Work ships quickly and gets in front of real authors the same week. Equal opportunity Cobalt Streamworks is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. How to apply Apply through the form on this page. No cover letter required; include your portfolio, and call out one project where you can walk us through the decisions, not just the outcome.
