Principal DevOps Engineer

Salary: $125000 - 166000 per year Requirements: We bring 10+ years of experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering, including at least 5 years in a senior or lead capacity. We have 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating solutions on AWS cloud services and architecture. We have a strong software engineering foundation, with 5+ years of development experience in Python, Java, or a similar language. We have proven experience architecting, building, and deploying microservices in distributed production environments. We have 2+ years of hands-on experience with GitHub Enterprise, including Actions and branch rulesets. We have experience designing and refining microservices architectures for independent deployment and scalability. We have strong architecture experience building large-scale CI/CD and release engineering platforms. We have demonstrated success establishing and enforcing repository standards, naming conventions, and governance policies at scale. We have expert-level proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure as code at scale. We have practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration. We communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across functions, providing technical leadership when needed. A bachelors or masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect certification is preferred. Experience with developer platform tools such as Backstage for service catalogs is preferred. Experience with Azure DevOps for work management is preferred. Experience implementing DORA metrics and DevOps performance indicators is preferred. Responsibilities: We design and evolve a modern DevOps platform that enables engineering teams to own their build, test, and deployment workflows from end to end. We build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tools for microservices, data workloads, and batch jobs, with a focus on self-service and repeatability. We define and enforce repository and branching standards, code quality practices, and automation patterns across engineering teams. We architect and implement infrastructure as code with AWS CDK and Terraform to ensure consistent and auditable environment provisioning. We partner with production and IT operations teams by providing automated deployment workflows and infrastructure patterns rather than directly running production. We collaborate with architects and senior engineers to shape technical direction and make key platform decisions around resiliency, security, and scalability. We drive best practices for observability and reliability, including dashboards, alerts, logs, and traces, so production teams have the insight they need. We create clear documentation, reference implementations, and templates that help teams adopt common patterns quickly. We mentor and coach engineers through pairing, code reviews, and design reviews, helping raise DevOps maturity across squads.
