Network & Network Data Operations Engineer
Currently, for one of our Partners, we are looking for an experienced Network & Network Data Operations Engineer to support a long‑term project delivered for a European Union organization.
Environment: Mission-critical production, ITIL & SAFe Agile Frameworks, Automation-First culture.
Role Purpose: Responsible for the operation, maintenance, automation, and continuous evolution of the enterprise Load Balancing Service based on F5 VELOS technology.
Key Responsibilities
– F5 Platform Administration: Maintain and administer F5 VELOS chassis, BIG-IP tenants, and LTM modules (including DSC/HA, Virtual Servers, Pools, iRules, and SSL Profiles). Manage software upgrades, backups, and configuration validation.
– Service Operations (L2): Resolve Level 2 incidents within SLAs, perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA), support Major Incident Management, and participate in on-call rotations. Provide coaching and knowledge transfer to L1 support (NOCA).
– Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Drive the "Automation First" principle. Develop Ansible playbooks and build GitLab CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments (virtual servers, pools, certificates, tenant provisioning) and compliance reporting.
– CMDB & Data Integrity: Maintain NetBox as the enterprise CMDB "source of truth". Ensure network automation consumes data directly from NetBox and validate consistency prior to deployments.
– Monitoring & Observability: Analyze platform health and performance, investigate alarms, support capacity planning, and improve dashboards to reduce alert noise.
– Documentation as Code: Produce Low-Level Designs (LLDs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Operational Runbooks using Markdown within GitLab.
Requirements:
Experience & Soft Skills
– Minimum 5 years of experience managing enterprise Load Balancing platforms.
– Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with F5 VELOS or modern F5 BIG-IP environments.
– Proven experience in infrastructure automation and operating mission-critical production environments.
– Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and under-pressure communication skills.
– Accountability, a proactive approach to automation, and an Agile/ITIL mindset.
Technical Stack (Required)
– Load Balancing & Protocols: F5 VELOS, BIG-IP LTM, High Availability / DSC, TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSL/TLS, DNS.
– Automation & Tools: Ansible, Git, GitLab CI/CD, REST APIs, YAML, JSON, Linux.
– Data & Configuration: NetBox, CMDB concepts.
Desirable Skills
– Declarative Onboarding (DO), Terraform, Docker.
– Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk.
Deliverables & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
– Core Deliverables: Automated Ansible roles/playbooks, LLDs/SOPs, RCA reports, platform health/capacity reports, and knowledge transfer sessions.
– Key KPIs: Incident resolution within SLA & MTTR reduction, platform availability, change success rate, number of automated operational tasks (reduction of manual activities), and CMDB accuracy.
