Microsoft Fabric Developer (South Africans only) Location: 100% Remote Contract Type: Full-Time Contract Experience Level: Mid-Level (4–8 Years) Application Method: Apply via www.sassoconsulting.co.za About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Fabric Developer to join a fast-growing data and analytics programme. This role sits at the intersection of Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, and AI-enabled data platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining Microsoft Fabric data products, Power BI reporting solutions, and data pipelines that support both business stakeholders and AI-driven solutions. This is a hands-on delivery role suited to someone who enjoys building, maintaining, and improving data solutions rather than operating purely at an architectural level. The role is fully remote and offers the opportunity to work with modern Microsoft technologies including Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Data Services, and AI-related data platforms. Key Responsibilities Microsoft Fabric Development Build and maintain solutions within Microsoft Fabric Workspaces. Develop and support Fabric Lakehouses. Design and maintain Dataflows Gen2. Understand and manage data movement throughout the Fabric ecosystem. Maintain Fabric semantic models and reporting datasets. Power BI Development Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards. Build scalable and well-structured semantic models. Develop advanced DAX measures and calculated columns. Create meaningful visualisations and reporting solutions for business stakeholders. Optimise report performance and usability. Data Engineering & Pipeline Development Build and maintain data pipelines within Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory. Ingest data from multiple sources including: SQL Databases APIs SharePoint Lists CSV and Flat Files External Data Sources Implement data transformation and cleansing processes. Monitor and troubleshoot pipeline failures. SQL Development Write complex SQL queries for reporting and transformation purposes. Develop views and transformation logic. Create data structures that support analytics and AI workloads. Ensure data quality and consistency across reporting layers. Python / PySpark Development Develop and maintain Fabric notebooks. Perform data transformation using Python and PySpark. Support automation and data engineering activities. Work with GitHub Copilot and other AI-assisted development tools where appropriate. AI Data Platform Support Support AI-enabled data environments. Prepare and maintain Gold Layer datasets. Assist with Azure AI Search indexing and synchronisation. Support Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) data structures. Ensure AI solutions have access to accurate, current, and well-governed data. Platform Operations Monitor data pipeline health and reliability. Troubleshoot data quality and integration issues. Ensure business-critical reporting environments remain operational. Stay current with Microsoft Fabric enhancements and new platform capabilities. Essential Requirements To be considered, applicants must have: 4–8 years of professional experience in Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, or Analytics Development. Proven hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience. Experience working with: Fabric Workspaces Lakehouses Dataflows Gen2 Strong Power BI development experience. Strong data modelling capability. Advanced SQL skills. Experience building and maintaining production-grade data pipelines. Python and/or PySpark experience. Experience working with data orchestration and scheduling tools. Strong problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment. A genuine interest in AI-enabled data platforms and emerging technologies. Highly Desirable Experience Candidates with the following will be highly advantageous: Azure AI Search Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) environments Azure Data Factory Power BI Service Administration Row-Level Security (RLS) Deployment Pipelines Delta Lake Architecture Bronze, Silver and Gold Data Layer Design Incremental Load Strategies KQL (Kusto Query Language) Real-time analytics solutions Certifications The following certifications will be advantageous: PL-300 Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst DP-600 Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer DP-900 Azure Data Fundamentals Relevant hands-on experience will be considered more important than certifications alone. What We Are Looking For We are looking for a technically strong, delivery-focused professional who enjoys building solutions, solving data challenges, and working with modern Microsoft technologies. You should be comfortable getting hands-on with data pipelines, reporting, transformations, and AI-related data structures while collaborating with senior technical stakeholders.
