Lead Systems Software Engineer

Salary: $107000 - 155000 per year Requirements: We require a bachelors degree in software engineering, computer science, network engineering, or a closely related discipline, plus at least 9 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, we accept a graduate degree in systems engineering, software engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 7 years of related experience. In lieu of a degree, we require at least 13 years of experience in cloud-based software design and architecture, resilient networks, or a similar area. We need the ability to obtain and maintain FAA Public Trust. We prefer experience supporting defense, intelligence, or aviation programs. We value experience with model-based systems engineering tools such as CAMEO or other SysML-based applications. We prefer certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Practitioner. Familiarity with Kubernetes for cloud environments is an advantage. Experience working in an Agile software development setting is preferred. We are looking for someone who has led cross-functional teams, coached engineers, and partnered effectively with stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills are important, including experience creating system documentation and security packages. Responsibilities: We lead systems and software engineering efforts across multiple programs, IRADs, and proposals. We apply strong systems engineering development life cycle discipline through all project phases. We work closely with software and network engineers to design, architect, and refine solutions. We capture, document, and manage requirements along with design artifacts. We prepare and present milestone gate reviews such as SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR, and TRR. We coordinate system integration with the SI&T leader to ensure smooth operation across software modules and cloud infrastructure. We develop, maintain, and control interface documentation to define software and cloud subsystem interactions. We help manage verification and validation activities so cloud and software systems meet functional and performance expectations. We perform cost, risk, supportability, and effectiveness assessments with an emphasis on scalable, maintainable cloud designs. We translate customer and stakeholder needs into complete system solutions while balancing technical, schedule, and budget constraints. We carry out functional decomposition, requirements allocation, and detailed trade studies to define hardware and software specifications. We define and maintain interfaces between software services, cloud resources, and any hardware components. We collaborate with cross-functional teams during design, implementation, and testing to preserve traceability and system integrity. We support installation, operations, and maintenance planning for cloud-hosted software products to ensure long-term support and security. We identify opportunities to improve systems and promote best practices in software architecture and cloud platform use.
