Java Backend Developer

Job Description Contract Type: 6-month fixed-term engagement Location: NYC (Hybrid – at least 3 days onsite/week) Visa Sponsorship: Meridian Softworks does not sponsor U.S. work permits or employment visas. We are seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer to join a team building a strategic Application Monitoring Platform. The platform will provide real-time visibility into application health, server performance, process status, and infrastructure resources through a centralized monitoring solution used by development and production support teams. This role is focused on designing and developing scalable backend services responsible for collecting, processing, and exposing monitoring data to a modern web-based UI. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java 21. Build scalable services to monitor application health, server status, process execution, and infrastructure metrics. Develop APIs consumed by the Front-End UI team. Integrate with scheduling and monitoring tools such as AutoSys and existing enterprise platforms. Collaborate with Front-End developers, Infrastructure, DevOps, and Production Support teams. Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, testing, deployment, and production support when required. Optimize application performance and reliability. Qualifications Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance or Quantitative finance 5+ years of Java development experience. Strong expertise with Java 21. Experience developing backend services and REST APIs. Strong Linux knowledge. Experience with multithreading and concurrent programming. Solid understanding of distributed systems. Experience with Git and Agile methodologies. Strong debugging and problem-solving skills. Nice to Have Experience with monitoring or observability platforms. Familiarity with AutoSys or enterprise scheduling tools. Experience with application health monitoring. Exposure to KDB (not required). Python scripting experience. Financial Services experience is a plus. Soft Skills Strong communication skills. Ability to collaborate with developers, infrastructure, and support teams. Self-driven with excellent analytical skills. Strong attention to detail.
