This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Investment Compliance Technical Lead based in United States. This is a high-impact technical leadership role at the intersection of investment compliance, data architecture, and software engineering. You’ll lead the transformation of complex investment mandates and agreements into structured, deterministic, and auditable compliance systems. Working with a major asset management environment, you’ll solve challenging problems involving investment restrictions, amendments, exceptions, benchmarks, and effective dates. You’ll partner directly with legal, compliance, investment, and engineering stakeholders to turn ambiguous requirements into computable business rules. The role combines hands-on architecture and implementation with technical direction, giving you significant ownership from the outset. You’ll establish systems that make compliance rules searchable, testable, traceable, and reliable over time. It’s an ideal opportunity for a highly autonomous professional who can bridge sophisticated financial-domain expertise with modern technical architecture. Accountabilities Assess the compliance landscape: Map how investment restrictions, benchmarks, exceptions, remediation requirements, and related terms are represented across investment management agreements, amendments, and portfolio management systems. Design the semantic model: Create a canonical vocabulary, schema, and rule-composition framework for representing restrictions, thresholds, exceptions, effective dates, versions, and provenance consistently. Translate complex requirements: Work closely with legal, compliance, and investment professionals to interpret investment guideline language and convert it into precise, computable rules. Model investment compliance logic: Structure complex requirements involving limits, ratings, benchmarks, breaches, remediation actions, and historical effective-date logic. Build traceability and auditability: Ensure every rule can be traced to its source clause and interpretation, supported by clear change control and provenance. Prototype and guide implementation: Develop the initial platform, establish deterministic validation and scenario-testing practices, and set technical direction for the broader implementation team. Drive outcomes independently: Frame ambiguous problems, establish assumptions, make sound technical and business decisions, and move projects forward without requiring extensive supervision. Communicate with senior stakeholders: Translate technical decisions and complex compliance concepts into clear recommendations for engineers, legal teams, compliance professionals, and executive stakeholders. Requirements Investment compliance expertise: Demonstrated experience translating investment guidelines into pre- or post-trade compliance rules using platforms such as Charles River, Aladdin, Sentinel, Bloomberg AIM, or comparable systems. Asset management knowledge: Strong understanding of holdings, benchmarks, credit ratings, investment restrictions, breaches, remediation, and the workflows of portfolio managers and compliance teams. Investment mandate experience: Practical familiarity with Investment Management Agreements and mandates, including the ability to recognize ambiguity and determine how restrictions should be interpreted and represented. Rules and decision modeling: Experience with rules engines or decision-modeling technologies such as Drools, DMN, Camunda, Open Policy Agent, or similar platforms. Temporal and versioned data: Experience designing data models that account for changes over time and support accurate historical or “as-of” queries. Semantic modeling: Familiarity with knowledge graphs, RDF, OWL, ontology design, or other approaches for representing complex relationships and logical consistency. Auditability and provenance: Experience building systems where data and decisions can be traced to their source, with strong audit trails and change history. Document and contract extraction: Experience converting unstructured legal, contractual, or regulatory language into structured data, taxonomies, or computable rules. Deterministic testing: Familiarity with property-based, scenario-based, or similar testing approaches for validating complex rule logic. Business-to-technical translation: Ability to connect business requirements with technical implementation while clearly explaining tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. High agency and ownership: Comfortable working through ambiguity, defining problems independently, making assumptions explicit, and taking accountability for outcomes. Strong communication: Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex discussions into clear requirements, actionable work, and trusted recommendations. Senior client-facing presence: Comfortable working directly with senior engineers, legal and compliance professionals, investment stakeholders, and executives. T-shaped expertise: Deep capability in at least one relevant area—such as investment compliance, rules engines, or data modeling—combined with sufficient breadth to collaborate across the others. Remote collaboration: Able to work effectively across distributed teams and primarily North American time zones, with occasional client travel. Benefits Competitive compensation: United States-based compensation ranges from USD $150K – $180K , calibrated according to location, qualifications, experience, seniority, and market conditions. Fully remote: Work remotely from Canada or the United States, with flexibility around when and where you work as long as business needs are met. Flexible PTO: Take time away as needed to rest, recharge, and maintain sustainable performance. Medical, dental, and vision coverage: Comprehensive healthcare benefits designed to support you and your family. Health FSA/HSA: Options to help manage eligible out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. Life insurance: Coverage providing additional financial protection for you and your loved ones. Occasional client travel: Opportunities to work directly with clients while collaborating with distributed teams across North America and internationally.
