Head of Technology Operations and Platforms
xceltium · Sydney NSW · Posted 1d ago
About the role
Most technology leaders inherit an established operating model. This opportunity gives you the chance to help shape one. I-MED Radiology Network is bringing its Technology Operations and Platform Engineering functions together under a new Head of Technology Operations & Platforms, creating clearer accountability from engineering and implementation through to production operations, service experience, reliability and resilience. You'll inherit capable teams and an established environment, but the future operating model hasn't been predetermined. You'll have the opportunity to determine what the combined function needs for the future. About I-MED Radiology Network I-MED is one of the world's largest providers of medical imaging services, performing around six million patient procedures each year through more than 200 clinics across Australia and New Zealand. More than 350 doctors and approximately 5,000 employees rely on its technology environment to deliver diagnostic care every day. Now under the ownership of Jardine Matheson, I-MED has a strong appetite to invest, grow and continue modernising its technology environment. The Opportunity Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, you'll lead a multidisciplinary Technology Operations & Platforms function of approximately 80 people. Your remit spans the services supporting clinicians and employees day to day, including Service Desk, workplace technology, Field Services and Clinic Support, the NOC (Network Operations Centre 24x7), service management, major incident management and disaster recovery. You'll also lead cloud, infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps and network management, including the connectivity supporting I-MED's distributed clinical network. There is a solid base to build from, but meaningful work remains. Parts of the infrastructure estate require modernisation, with ageing assets and technical debt to address. Reliability, resilience and disaster recovery are important areas of focus, alongside continued investment in cloud, automation, observability and more standardised engineering practices. Your responsibilities will include: Bringing Technology Operations and Platform Engineering together and determining the right operating model, leadership structure and capability for the future Strengthening service management, reliability, resilience and disaster recovery Addressing priority infrastructure lifecycle risks and technical debt Progressing cloud, infrastructure, network and platform capabilities Developing the roadmap and holding strategic technology partners accountable for service and commercial outcomes About You This isn't a hands-on engineering role, but you'll need genuine technical credibility. You'll lead experienced technology leaders and specialists. You won't need to be the deepest technical expert in every domain, but you will need enough depth to ask the right questions, challenge decisions and hold your leaders accountable while staying focused on broader technology and business outcomes. You'll ideally bring: Leadership experience across technology operations, infrastructure, cloud, platforms, networks or service delivery in a large and complex environment A track record of leading technology leaders across multidisciplinary teams Strong technical judgement without needing to personally execute the engineering Experience improving reliability and resilience while progressing technology modernisation The ability to shape operating models, roadmaps and investment priorities Confidence working with senior technology, clinical, operational and corporate stakeholders A practical, commercially minded leadership style with a bias for action You may already be operating at Head-of level, or be an accomplished senior technology leader ready to take on broader enterprise accountability. Healthcare experience isn't essential. Experience in other complex, distributed or highly available environments can translate well. Why Join I-MED? For an established Head, this is the opportunity to take on significant scale and influence at an important point in I-MED's technology evolution. For someone ready to step up, it's the chance to lead other technology leaders and take on broader enterprise accountability, with direct exposure and mentorship from the CIO. Either way, the work has a clear purpose: leading the technology clinicians rely on to deliver diagnostic care across more than 200 locations. The role is based in Sydney CBD and generally operates on a hybrid basis, with around two to three days each week in the office. There will also be occasional domestic travel, primarily to Melbourne and Brisbane. I-MED offers a highly competitive base salary + superannuation + 20% Short-Term Incentive (STI). Next Steps For a confidential discussion, please contact Steven Fulop on 0418 994 446 or [email protected] . Please note: xceltium has been exclusively retained by I-MED Radiology Network to manage this appointment. All direct and third-party applications will be referred to xceltium and treated with the strictest confidence.
