About the role

About DataTorque DataTorque builds and implements tax administration systems around the globe. We are a New Zealand company exporting complex technology, and we are proud to be both tax reform specialists and technologists. Our systems help countries transform the public revenue systems that fund essential services and infrastructure for their citizens. We work alongside our clients so they can collect and manage those revenues, and we call that "collective success". With offices in Wellington and Cyprus, our customers span a global footprint. About the role This is a brand new role and the most senior technical position in our Client Success group. Right now each of our teams has its own tools, practices and idea of what good looks like. We’re looking for someone to bring that together, so every client gets consistent quality, well-designed solutions and estimates we can stand behind. You’ll report to the Global Operations Director and work alongside the Delivery Capability Manager and Head of Service Management. You’ll lead our Tech Leads, who keep running their squads day to day, while you set the standards, design solutions with them and build the capability that helps them succeed. You’ll also play a big part in shaping what comes next. That includes helping recruit our Tech Leads and leading the rollout of AI-assisted development across our squads, building on a pilot that’s already underway. What you will do Set the engineering standard. Define and maintain our standards, patterns and toolchain (GitHub Enterprise, Jira, CI/CD, environments) and make sure they are adopted, not just documented. Own solution design. Act as technical design authority for client change and enhancements, so every material SOW and change request has an approved solution before we commit. Make estimates we can trust. Build and run one estimation model for SOWs, change requests, renewals and proposals, and feed actuals back into it. Lead AI adoption. Set the guardrails for AI-assisted development and roll out ratified tools squad by squad, making teams faster without reducing quality. Grow people. Line manage and coach the Tech Leads, mentor engineers, and own the technical career framework from graduate to Tech Lead. Plan capacity. Run a joint capacity cycle with the Delivery Capability Manager so squads have the right skills ahead of need. Connect engineering to client outcomes. Turn client SLAs and KPIs into engineering practice, and evidence engineering readiness at each transition gate. What you will bring Significant software engineering experience, including technical leadership of multiple teams. Proven solution architecture on complex enterprise systems, ideally in government, tax, revenue or financial services. Experience producing estimates and effort models that support pricing, SOWs and proposals. Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development and agent-based tooling, and the judgement to set sensible guardrails. Strong grasp of modern engineering practice: CI/CD, automated testing, security, cloud and on-premise hosting, GitHub Enterprise and Jira. Experience coaching and line managing senior technical staff and building career pathways. The ability to explain technical options, risks and costs clearly to clients and non-technical colleagues Knowledge of revenue management platforms is a bonus. Just as important is how you work. You are calm under pressure, collaborative, and quick to deal with issues. You hold yourself and others to a high standard, keep learning, and love helping others grow. Why work with us? The work is interesting and meaningful, but it's the people who make DataTorque a great place to work. We're collaborative, down-to-earth and supportive. We care about doing quality work and helping each other succeed. Whether it's catching up over coffee, dragon boating or after-work board games, we enjoy spending time together and celebrating our successes. You’ll be supported to be yourself and bring your unique strengths to the table. And with clients around the world, you’ll have opportunities to grow and connect beyond New Zealand. If you’d like more information on who we are reach out to us on [email protected] if you have any questions.
