Salary: $90,000 - 135,000 per year Requirements: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; an advanced degree or equivalent practical experience is preferred. 12+ years of experience in software engineering, infrastructure or platform engineering, cloud or enterprise architecture, or related technology leadership roles. 5+ years of people leadership experience managing architects, principal engineers, or comparable senior technical contributors. Demonstrated experience setting architecture strategy and roadmaps for large-scale distributed systems, infrastructure platforms, cloud environments, or high-volume digital technology platforms. Deep knowledge of cloud-native architecture, Kubernetes, containers, serverless, infrastructure automation, networking, storage, databases, observability, CI/CD, developer platforms, and security-by-design practices. Strong understanding of hybrid infrastructure, datacenter modernization, multi-cloud strategy, workload placement, resiliency, operational readiness, and platform lifecycle management, including experience leading large, complex workload migrations between hyperscalers. Experience establishing architecture governance, standards, review processes, exception management, reference architectures, and technology decision frameworks across multiple teams or business domains. Experience collaborating with Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, Operations, Security, Data, Product Architecture, and senior Engineering leaders to align architectural strategy with execution. Proven ability to assess tradeoffs involving reliability, scalability, performance, security, operability, cost, developer productivity, time-to-market, and organizational readiness. Experience with FinOps, cost-aware architecture, cloud spend governance, capacity planning, or infrastructure efficiency programs. Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and organizational influence skills. Responsibilities: Lead, develop, and manage the Platform Architecture team, setting priorities, accountability, development plans, and technical direction. Define and advance the Platform and Infrastructure Architecture vision, operating model, engagement approach, standards, governance, and strategic roadmaps; advise the Executive Director of Enterprise Architecture on priorities and the broader architecture agenda. Partner with Platform Engineering as its strategic architecture counterpart, providing standards and target-state guidance while leaving delivery, operations, and execution ownership with engineering. Set architectural direction across cloud and datacenter infrastructure, compute, Kubernetes and container platforms, serverless, storage, databases, networking, observability, CI/CD, developer tooling, secrets and identity management, and internal platform services. Shape multi-cloud and hybrid infrastructure strategy, including workload placement, portability where appropriate, resilience, operational readiness, cost efficiency, security, and regulatory or business constraints. Create and maintain reference architectures, platform standards, target-state designs, decision records, technology lifecycle recommendations, and modernization roadmaps; drive rationalization to reduce legacy complexity, fragmentation, duplicated capabilities, operational toil, and unnecessary variation. Establish paved roads and golden paths that support developer productivity while balancing consistency, flexibility, reliability, security, and business needs. Guide observability, service health, SLOs, reliability engineering, incident learning, and operational excellence; partner with Security and Operations on secure-by-design practices, vulnerability management, policy enforcement, auditability, and production readiness. Work with Finance, Engineering, and Platform Engineering to embed FinOps and cost-aware practices in platform strategy, including cost transparency, usage efficiency, and informed tradeoffs. Evaluate and communicate build, buy, extend, standardize, deprecate, and retire decisions, weighing business value, strategic options, architectural fit, resilience, security, operability, risk, and total cost of ownership. Assess emerging technologies, including AI-enabled developer platforms, automation, infrastructure orchestration, and platform engineering tools, and recommend adoption where they offer measurable engineering benefits. Collaborate with Product Architecture to align product designs with shared platform capabilities, reusable infrastructure services, integration patterns, and technology guardrails. Coach architects and principal engineers, build a strong architecture community of practice, and foster inclusion, learning, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement across Engineering and partner teams. Advise executive and engineering leaders on platform risks, modernization opportunities, organizational friction, and decisions requiring alignment; translate technical tradeoffs into clear business, risk, cost, and delivery implications. Facilitate technical discussions, clarify tradeoffs, document decisions, and ensure architecture guidance is practical and communicated effectively; balance long-term modernization and risk reduction with near-term delivery commitments. Exercise independent judgment and discretion on significant matters, maintain regular and punctual attendance, and perform other assigned duties.
