Data Scientist

Salary: $94,200 - 94,200 per year Requirements: Degree in a relevant field such as mathematics, engineering, operations research, statistics, geomatics, or AI, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 2 years of experience in advanced statistics, data mining, and/or text mining, with evidence of real-world results. Strong Python skills and familiarity with Git-based development, including version control and peer review; experience writing tests and clear technical documentation. Solid understanding of machine learning methods and how to select them, with the ability to explain results and limitations to technical and non-technical audiences. Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working with partially defined problems. Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills in a multi-project environment. Must be eligible to work in Canada; Canadian work experience is not required. Nice to have: experience with insurance pricing or segmentation, including GLM/GBM, model calibration, and portfolio impact measurement. Nice to have: AI governance experience or experience building AI tools for underwriting. Nice to have: call center optimization experience, such as demand forecasting, staffing or queueing, routing optimization, or speech and text analytics. Nice to have: intelligent document processing and information retrieval experience, including document preprocessing, classification, summarization, advanced retrieval, LLM-assisted or agentic workflows, and complex decision-making. Nice to have: usage-based insurance or telematics experience, including time-series feature engineering, driver scoring, and drift or seasonality monitoring. Responsibilities: Build, validate, and deliver analytics and machine learning solutions that turn complex data into clear insights and recommendations. Write stable, testable, maintainable production code and contribute to shared standards through code reviews and documentation. Apply sound statistical and machine learning practices, including experiment design, validation, model evaluation, and monitoring; improve how we measure quality and impact. Independently own scoped technical problems from initial ambiguity through implementation and completion. Recommend and use appropriate tools, packages, and libraries to solve problems efficiently and reliably. Work with stakeholders across the organization to define success metrics, communicate trade-offs, and support data-informed decisions. Collaborate with teammates on technical challenges, share best practices, and contribute to a learning culture. Raise risks early, align on scope, and help shape the teams technical direction and approaches.
